Abstract

In 1848 Louis Pasteur discovered first time evidence of chirality in the salt of tartaric acid. He was
able to isolate two set of crystals each mirror image of the other. Since then thousands of chiral
molecules have been discovered or synthesized in the laboratories around the globe. The extra
ordinary properties of these optical isomers that have identical chemical composition, deeply have an
impact on our life. Many medicines heal or exhibit adverse effect due to the presence of chiral
molecules. This presentation will discuss the basic nature of chiral molecules, its impact on our life
along with the initial research work by our group in the light of Quranic references regarding the
concept of Chirality.
