MONTRÉAL — Université de Montréal has achieved the $1-billion fundraising target of its Brave the Way philanthropic campaign less than three years after its launch.
According to higher education reporting, the campaign reached what the institution describes as the largest fundraising total achieved by a French-language university. The financing has supported 781 scholarships and 71 research chairs, along with academic and community-focused programs.
University officials indicated that fundraising will continue, with additional attention directed toward student facilities, artificial intelligence innovation and research capacity. The milestone illustrates the growing role of philanthropic financing in supporting higher education institutions.
It also raises broader questions about the sustainability, accessibility and equitable distribution of university research funding.
